Welcome to the new version of my own official website. I finally have revamped it all and put everything in its place. I will be adding some new pages as I go along so please do pop back here from time to time to catch up on what I am up to, or what I am moaning about.

I have been in love with the American West since the age of five when my grandfather put me on the back of a pony and my granny put a western book in my hand called “Speedy “ written by Max Brand. My cowboy TV heroes were James Drury and Doug McClure in “The Virginian” and James Arness as Matt Dillon in “Gunsmoke.”

Down through the years my favorite writers have been Max Brand, Zane Grey, Louis L'Amour, Luke Short, Elmore Leonard, Frank O Rourke and my all-time favorite, Ernest Haycox. Strangely enough my favorite writer now-a-days is David Baldacci. I also like some of the Cormac McCarthy, and of course not forgetting my fellow Irish novelist, Roddy Doyle.

My books are modern but written with a feel for the old time western life style.  The heroes are from now but they all have one thing in common. Their codes of living are a throwback to the old western way of life and the men and women who built the west.

In the late 90’s I got the urge to write about my life growing up in rural Ireland back in the 50’s & 60’s.  While I was wrestling with this saga I then got a brainwave to write a fiction story set in and around the small town where I had grown up under the watchful eyes and the steady hands of my Grandparents on a small farm. The title of that book was “Trails of a Lonely Heart

                    The rest is history.....

Welcome to my site and to my life...

And now for a bit of nostalgia. This video is from the Fleadh Cheol in Bunclody in 1963. This was taken at the top of the mall across from Bond’s Shop on the corner. Watch out for the shop in the background from Walter Thorpe. One of my Granny’s favorite shops.  Make sure you watch it till the end so you can see the dancing. Paddy Butler and Dominic Connors  are the two male dancers. Sorry about the sound it’s a little off but then again, this was 51 years ago. This was the last Fleadh I seen with my grandfather. He died in March the following year at the early age of 74. I was 12 years old. (Turn up the sound and enjoy) Oh! so happy times.
